Hi! We are the Bruton Family, first generation farmers with a passion for agriculture, genetics that perform on grass, farm-to-table protein, and instilling a love of it all in our children. Our farm is nestled in the heart of Floyd, Virginia and our county is truly a little slice of heaven on earth from the scenery to the people. We take pride in producing quality animals and believe in top notch customer service and southern hospitality. Embryo transfer and artificial insemination have allowed us to build a herd selecting for the traits we believe that all cattle should exhibit--longevity, docility, soundness, mothering ability, and forage conversion. After experiencing a variety of breeds we realized that Heritage Shorthorns were the breed that would help us achieve our goals. Our first Heritage Shorthorn embryo calves hit the ground in 2024 and now we are up and running with a strong vision for the future. We are always happy to answer any questions you may have about our animals and farming practices and we always look forward to meeting fellow farmers!

It's a full family affair here at Windy Creek Farm! Jake is the main caretaker of our animals (he also happens to be a large animal veterinarian) and Taunya helps with customer questions and administration in between homeschooling our 5 children. Our kids help in all areas- we may be biased but they are definitely some of the best farmhands around! They are also budding bluegrass musicians.
